Things I can say for sure – getting two good nights sleep and not running 5 miles the night before certainly help the long run. Not a particularly good mid-range run (two nights of no sleep and running at 11pm at night is not going to help that!). But the long run was the boost of confidence I needed. New third best run 16 miler ever, felt no bad coming into those final two miles. Distance is a touch shy as some guy started asking me some questions about where I run and get mileage during my cool down walk and so I went a lot slower than I normally do during that 5 minutes.
On an separate note, for the last two weeks I have seen another runner that ought to inspire you. He’s an amputee with a spring-blade on one leg. Pretty inspiring by itself but it gets better. I guess those things only come in one size, and the spring-blade is longer than his full leg. So he’s got a mini-blade attached to his shoe. Watching him run, you can tell the heights are not perfect and he’s uneven from a body weight perspective too, so it looks pretty awkward all-around. But he plugs away. Good for him.
